First Pack Meeting, Tiger Hike, & Pack Hike

Pack Meeting – Friday, September 23rd

We had a great first Pack Meeting on Friday, September 23rd, with almost 100 boys in attendance! All the boys listened attentively to the leaders who spoke, and cheered loudly for the boys who were recognized for some special awards they earned over the summer. Specifically, the following boys all earned the ‘Summertime Activity Award’ for attending all 3 Summer events:

  • Dante O. (Wolf)
  • A.J. R. (Bear)
  • Graham Z. (Bear)
  • James A. (Bear)
  • Jacob P. (Webelos)
  • Keegan O. (Webelos)
  • Matthew L. (Webelos)

In addition, James A. and Luke T. were presented with their 50 mile Hiking Sticks!! James earned his as a Bear Scout at Douglas Park in June, and Luke hiked his 50th mile at Wachusett Mountain in July. As a reminder to all parents, keep track of those miles, and let your Den Leader know as your boy gets closer to achieving one of the awards.

After the award presentations, Jennifer Rodrique talked to the Pack about our Popcorn campaign for 2011. There are some really cool prizes that can be earned! Also, keep in mind that Popcorn is our only fundraiser, and pays for just about everything we do.

Finally, we all saw Jozeph the Magician perform a really fun magic presentation! All the boys thoroughly enjoyed Jozeph’s entertainment!

First Tiger Den Meeting and Hike @ NGES – Saturday, September 24th

We had a bunch of new Tiger Scouts meet with some of the leaders to have a short hike through the woods, and do a fun craft activity with some leaves. Any Tigers who attended completed Activity #5 in the Tiger Book! Also, any scouts in attendance earned 1 mile towards their hiking awards.

Pack Hike – Sunday, September 25th

A whole bunch of boys showed up for a nice hike in Uxbridge to Lookout Point. It was a hot and muggy day, but the rain stayed away, and the view at the top was gorgeous! All the boys who attended were credited with 3 miles towards their hiking awards. We also saw what looked like a baby Timber Rattlesnake, but in the end it turned out to be an imposter: an Eastern Hog-Nosed Snake. Too bad, because Timber Rattlers are very rare in Massachusetts, and it would have been newsworthy. We got some good pictures of it anyway!

And special congratulations to A.J. R.! A.J. walked his 50th mile with the pack today, and will be receiving his personalized Walking Stick at the October Pack Meeting. WAY TO GO A.J.!

August 6th Bike Rally

Some of the Pack 106 Scouts had a ton of fun riding their bikes on August 6th at a Bike Rally! The round-trip wasn’t as far as we thought it was, but the Millbury section of the bike trail is very nice, well-maintained, and has some really great scenery along the way.

The boys were credited with 2 miles for their hiking awards. This is also one of Pack 106’s three “official” summertime activities – boys who attend all three events get a pretty cool award for their efforts!

Start of the 2011-2012 Scouting Year

Here we are again! After a fantastic summer with some really fun activity, we’re ready to start the official Scouting Year off! A flyer will be going home soon with boys of the appropriate ages in our school system. Here’s a copy of it if you’re interested.

Some important dates are coming up. Please refer (and subscribe, if you’d like) to the Pack Calendar.

Pack 106’s registration date for the 2011-2012 year is Friday, September 16, 6:30-7:30pm at St. Mary’s Church, 17 Waterville Street, North Grafton. The cost is $46 and includes a Pack tee-shirt (for new scouts) or $40 for existing scouts. If you’d like to print and fill out the registration form prior to the 16th, here’s a copy.

The first Pack Meeting will be the following Friday, September 23rd, from 7-8:30pm at St. Mary’s. We will have Dens (and hopefully Den Leaders for the new Tigers) figured out by then. You’ll be hearing from your Den Leaders regarding Den Meeting locations and schedules.

There will be a Tiger Hike & first Den Meeting on Saturday, September 24th, from 3-4pm at North Grafton Elementary School, 46 Waterville St, North Grafton.

And lastly, the September Pack Hike will be on Sunday, September 25th, from 1-3pm at the Blackstone Valley River Canal at 350 Hartford Avenue East, Uxbridge, MA. We’ll be doing the ‘King Phillips’ Trail, and it should be about 3 miles for the boys’ Hiking Awards.
