On Sunday, October 21, scouts from Pack 106 participated in the 6th Annual Blackstone Valley Riverways Cleanup sponsored by the Blackstone River Watershed Association (BRWA). We could not have asked for a more beautiful day weather-wise. During this event, the BRWA designates areas along the riverbank that are in the most need for a clean-up. This year, five areas were designated for cleanup.
What’s the best news? We had so much help from Pack 106 that we were able clean not one, but two areas adding to the total of areas cleaned! The cubs along with parents, picked up trash at Fisherville Dam in Grafton as well as in front of Goretti’s Supermarket in Millbury. The trash included tires, wooden chairs, pieces of clothing, lots of cans and bottles, chip bags, newspapers, you name it! All in a two hour span.
After the cleanup, cubs and parents were invited for warm apple cider, donuts, brownies and other refreshments at the River Bend Farm Visitor’s Center in Uxbridge. The visitor’s center houses a small museum which also allowed the cubs to take a close look at life in the Blackstone River area back in the 1800’s. We look forward to the next cleanup as fun was had by all!
