We had a great time at our pack meeting in September, and welcomed a whole bunch of new scouts to Pack 106! We had two dens of Tigers join us, plus a few scouts in the other ranks.
The meeting started with an overview of the Cub Scout “Signs up!” call to attention by Cubmaster Paquin. He explained that it was important for scouts to have fun, but when an adult leader asks for attention by putting their right hand up in the air, they had to act like wolf cubs do when their ears are up in the air: they listen to who’s speaking, they are quiet themselves, and they show respect. They practiced a few times with a fun exercise and everyone was well-behaved.
The boys earned a ton of special awards over the summer, too. There were many boys who earned the special “summertime activities award” by attending all three scheduled summer events. This is a pretty big accomplishment, so the boys were presented with special pins, and got to put their names up on the “Banner of Achievement”.
We also had 5 boys get their hiking awards from over the summer. Mr. Alderton and Mr. Paquin were both very proud of these boys and their great accomplishments! Dante O. and Matty T. got their 50-mile hiking sticks, George H. and James A. got their 100-mile backpacks, and Jacob P. got his 125-mile daypack too! Way to go, boys! All of these boys crossed these hiking thresholds on the same day, at the Mount Monadnock hike over the summer!
After that, our pack Popcorn Queen Jennifer Rodrique got the boys really excited about selling popcorn this fall! She announced some really cool new prizes, including awards for the top sellers in each rank! The top-selling Tiger, Wolf, and Bear scouts will each get Lego Creator 3-1 Cool Cruisers, and the top-selling Webelos and Arrow of Light scouts will get awesome Telescopes! The top seller in the entire pack will get a fantastic 20″ BMX bike donated by Grafton’s very own Trek Stop!
Finally, Creature Teachers came in to do a really cool presentation on some awesome creatures like a kookaburra from Australia, a ground-hog, a cane toad, and even an alligator!
Here’s the agenda from the meeting, with details on the popcorn prizes too!
