The Cub Scouts spent their “Cinco de Mayo” the only way they know how…By hiking 5 miles up and down Mt Watatic in Ashburham, MA. The weather was absolutely beautiful, but the same cannot be said for the bug problem. Everyone had a chance to stand in two states at the same time by placing on foot in New Hampshire and the other in Massachusetts! Despite bugs flying in the ears, mouths and noses, the boys (and parents) were tough and covered in bug spray by the time we all reached the top. In the end it was all worth it. There were very few clouds in the sky, so everyone got to see Mt. Wachusett and Mt. Monadnoc from way high up! Everyone could see for miles and many did not want to leave as the conditions on the peak were perfect. Coming down was no easy task and everyone’s legs definitely worked overtime…but didn’t seem to bother some people who were jogging the trail! We hope many of the boys slept well that night and we will announce the next hike soon. And always remember to carry water while hiking…just not TOO MUCH water.
