The first summer activity was the “Official” June activity – the Beaver Day at Treasure Valley. The morning was spend setting up beds and mattresses in camp sites in preparation for Boy Scout and Webelos Resident camps. The Park Rangers kindly provided a lunch for us interrupted only by various attempts to explode soda cans – the “big rock” was by far the most amusing. After lunch we set up a couple more camp sites and then had the rest of the afternoon to set up our campsite, fish, swim, play ball and cook supper. After a hearty meal and a roaring fire we went on a short night-hike down to the lake to test the famous Treasure Valley echo.
The June pack hike was at West Hill Dam. Parking looked like it might be a problem but once the Rangers realized we were a Cub Scout group they opened the “private” gate and let us park in their lot by the Rangers cabin … thanks guys. Some of the trails were still 14′ ( yes I mean feet ) underwater after all the rain we have had so we had an interesting hike with many detours ( and snakes )
The “Optional” activity for June was a Whale Watch from Boston Harbor. It was the perfect day to be out on a boat – sunny skies and calm seas. We got some great views of a 27 year old Humpback whale called “Satula”. A big thanks to Mr Rodrique for organizing this event.
The annual pack bike ride took place on 7/20 – it was a hot morning but a cool breeze helped – the boys cycled 8 miles on some very beautiful paved trails. The Cubmaster even took an unexpected dip into the Blackstone canal trying to retrieve a bike part !!!!
The final summer event of 2013 was the pack hike up Wachusetts Mountain – we certainly picked a great day for the hike and the boys had a well earned rest at the top to enjoy the view. See you all in September.
