We had our November Pack Meeting last Thursday, and in keeping with the season, there were plenty of things to be thankful for!
First, a ton of boys got a whole bunch of awards, including some Banner of Achievement stickers. Chester O. and Jaden N. were presented with their stickers for earning a lot of Belt Loops, and Jack C. was presented with his 50-mile Hiking Stick. Way to go, boys!
We announced that the boys had done amazingly well on popcorn too! Despite the fact that the Pack is smaller in size than last year, the boys increased their “units/boy” average significantly, and the Pack brought in $43,000 in popcorn. AWESOME JOB! Webelos Den 2 (the “Red Back Spiders”) won the Rock-climbing event in Worcester with some really incredible numbers. Tiger Den 2 was very close behind, and should feel really proud of their accomplishments.
Because of the incredible sales, leadership decided to take every single den to a Snow-tubing event! This will be a pack-wide event, with food as well. The date on this will be announced soon.
Finally, it was announced that the pack won the “Mohegan Council Marksman” event, too! They competed against every other pack in the Council and submitted a ton of filled sheets to Council. The boys will be able to get hands-on training in Archery and BB-Guns (earning their belt loops for these too), and have a council-sponsored lunch. This event will be scheduled for the spring.
All popcorn prizes will be awarded at the December Pack meeting – and we’ll find out who the individual winners are too!
Also, some neat activities were discussed:
The Pinewood Derby preparations are in full swing! See the PWD page for more details. If you didn’t get your car, we’ll have some at the December meeting too.
There’s going to be a “Jingle Bell Run” on December 1st which will benefit the “Foundation to be
One-mile walk/run to benefit the “Foundation to Be Named Later.” It will be on Saturday, December 1st, 11am to 2pm @ Grafton High School, and is being organized by Nancy Cooper. The Pack will be making a donation to pay the $10 entry fees for all boys who want to participate! Please bring an unwrapped gift for the charity. Boys who participate will be credited with a mile towards their hiking awards. Here’s a flyer with some more details. This should be a great family event, with fun for everyone!
Also, the Museum of Science sleep-over is getting closer! This is going to be a great event! We will be sleeping over at the Museum on Friday night, December 7th. There is a new exhibit called “Shipwreck: Pirates & Treasure!” which should be a lot of fun! The price is $55/person, and Scouts must be accompanied by an adult. There’s enough room for siblings too! The Registration deadline is Friday, November 30th. Please see Mr. Romeo with any questions. If you’d like to reserve a slot, please visit the MySignUp page for this event.
These and all other upcoming events are listed on the Pack calendar.
Also, on Saturday, several of our Webelos and Arrow of Light scouts participated in the third annual “Hassanamisco District Turkey Shoot!” It was a great day, and the boys had a fantastic time participating in Archery, BB-Guns, and Tomahawk throwing contests. They also had plenty of opportunities to earn some Belt Loops, too; there were 12 stations where they could learn about astronomy, badminton, chess, marbles, music, etc.
At the end of the day, 3 of our scouts walked away with a prize (aka a turkey!) and everyone who attended got a very cool patch! Hunter W. took first place in archery with some fantastic shooting, Jacob P. got first place in tomahawk throwing with some really nice “sunk” axes, and AJ R. got third place in tomahawk throwing too!
Here are some pictures from the meeting and the Turkey Shoot:
